I remember my very first pair of chucks. They were black high tops from Journey's. I had wanted them for quite a while, but being a young child, Mom didnt' want to spend 40-50 bucks on a pair of sneakers which were probably going to end up battered from excessive hours of playing handball or dodge ball with the boys. I begged and pleaded with her for about a week until she gave in and brought me to the store to get them tried out. My very first pair of chucks. Feeling pretty proud and superior over my peers I trotted around church in my brand new shoes. The next day was school. Great! I can be part of the "cool shoes crew"! Pathetic isn't it?? But yes, there was a "cool shoes crew". Unfortunately, Monday happened to be the day after it rained. Oh yes, dirty puddle-ie ground, muddy field... it'd only be my own luck that we'd have to run the mile and I didn't have my actual PE shoes with me. My 2 day old chucks ran through the mud on the track field. My 2 day old chucks were no longer sparkling clean. The white laces had soaked up the dirty water, the canvas had given the mud some refuge in between the seams, and the leather?? No longer that bright white as they had been.
It took me 2 days to pretty much ruin my first pair of chucks. Since then, I've owned over 10 pairs of chucks. I love my chucks and am super excited to get my new pair in! This time, they won't get ruined as fast :p
